Years of squinting, concentrating and frowning  in the harsh New Zealand sun can leave wrinkles and lines at the corner of the eyes and the forehead. Frown lines can give an angry or a sad look.

Botox is the world’s number one cosmetic medical procedure. A twenty minute procedure can soften frown lines, forehead lines and crow’s feet as well as give the face a fresh look. If performed well it will have people asking “You look good, what are you doing?” and not asking whether you have had work done.

Botox® relaxes the facial muscles that promote facial lines. At $17.50 a unit a typical frown line treatment will usually cost $350.

Many facial wrinkles occur when we use our muscles to form facial expressions. When we are young our skin springs back to its initial position after facial expression. As we get older wrinkles develop with movement and eventually become permanent. Natural aging, exposure to the harsh New Zealand sun, smoking and stress all contribute to the creation of wrinkles and folds.

What is Botox® treatment?

Botox® is botulinum toxin Type A, a highly purified protein and is produced in one single factory in Ireland owned by Allergan Inc. Tiny amounts are precisely injected into specific facial muscles causing local relaxation. This effect smoothes out lines and wrinkles and can slow down the formation of new creases.

Because Botox® only affects the facial muscles around the site of injection a natural result is achieved.

What is Dysport® treatment?

Dysport® is the version of botulinum toxin Type A produced by Galderma, a European company. Because Dysport® and Botox® are both botulinum toxin Type A they basically do the same job. Because of the small differences between them some people prefer one or the other. At PCMC we can offer both versions.

How Can Botox® Help?

Botox® can be used to treat the appearance of aging including:

• frown lines causing an angry or worried look

• crow’s feet lines around the eyes

• forehead lines

Botox® treatments can also be combined with our other treatments including dermal fillers, PRP, microneedling, laser or IPL. Call for a consultation to discuss your concerns and what we can do for you.

Botox® is also used to reduce excessive underarm sweating to a more manageable level. Further information is available here.

What side effects can occur with Botox® treatment?

Side effects from Botox® are uncommon and usually mild and related to the injections like soreness and mild bruising. Patients may get a headache on the day of treatment. Rarely the Botox® may spread to surrounding muscles and can lead to a temporary eyebrow, eyelid or facial droop.
