Why use Laser Hair removal?
- With laser hair removal you can easily and quickly remove embarrassing body hair, no more ingrown hairs
- More effective and less painful than electrolysis and waxing
- Freedom from the pain, hassle and expense of waxing, shaving, tweezing and creams
- Safer on sun-exposed and darker skin than IPL
- Better for darker hair
Be free of the constant mess and hassle of shaving, waxing and tweezing (and the ingrown hairs). A course of 6 to 8 laser hair removal treatments removes over 90% of hair and with occasional topups you will maintain the results. Gain confidence, wear what you want to wear, feel better about yourself. At Ponsonby Cosmetic Medical Clinic, our prices encourage you to complete your treatment course so you can stay looking better for longer.
Why use Laser and not IPL?
Many of our patients and clients see us after complications or failed treatment with IPL. They find our Coolglide Nd:YAG laser usually gives more effective and safer treatment.
A laser is a powerful beam of a single wavelength of light while an IPL is an intense beam of light of many wavelengths.
It is possible to target different aspects of the skin by choosing a laser of the correct wavelength. The Coolglide laser’s wavelength of 1064 nanometers targets hair and veins. It also penetrates deeper into the skin than IPL so can treat deeper hair follcles around the groin more effectively than IPL.
Because an IPL heats all skin structures it can overheat pigmented cells causing burns and subsequent pale or dark patches of skin. This is much less likely with a laser.
It is possible to build an IPL to approximate the safety profile of a laser. These IPLs cost $100-200,000 and are only ever bought by doctors. Cheaper chinese IPLs ($15,000) are purchased by beauty therapists. These do not have the same safety and effectiveness as the more expensive machines. They may do the job for some people but often the therapist is faced with the dilemma of either turning up the power to get a result and risking burns or turning it down for safety and not getting the result.
These issues do not occur with our laser so we can safely treat more people. People with darker and tanned skin as well as those who have either had burns or no result with IPL should see our Registered Nurses for a free consultation. Treatment can safely continue during the summer months.
