Botox® & Anti-Wrinkle Treatments

Refresh your appearance, while still looking like yourself.

At Ponsonby Cosmetic Medical Clinic (PCMC), anti-wrinkle treatments are designed to soften expression lines without changing the way you look. Led by Dr Paul Nola, our doctor-led team takes a careful, personalised approach — helping you achieve a fresher, more rested result that still feels natural to you.

We offer a range of prescription anti-wrinkle treatments, including Botox®, Dysport® and Relfydess®. Your practitioner will recommend the most appropriate option based on your facial anatomy, treatment goals, medical history and previous treatment experience.

Smooth lines without losing expression

Expression lines can develop over time from repeated facial movement such as frowning, smiling, squinting or raising the brows. In New Zealand, sun exposure can also contribute to changes in skin texture and visible ageing.

Anti-wrinkle injections work by temporarily relaxing selected facial muscles. This can help soften lines in commonly treated areas such as the frown, forehead and around the eyes, while maintaining a natural level of movement and expression.

What areas can be treated?

Depending on the product selected and your individual assessment, anti-wrinkle treatments may be used to soften the appearance of:

  • Frown lines between the eyebrows
  • Forehead lines
  • Crow’s feet around the eyes

Treatment is usually quick and well tolerated, with appointments often taking around 10–15 minutes once your consultation and treatment plan are complete. Most people are able to return to their normal day shortly afterwards.

Understanding your options

Botox®, Dysport® and Relfydess® are all prescription medicines used in appearance medicine. They work in a similar way, but each has differences in formulation, dosing and approved indications. Botulinum toxin units are specific to each product and are not interchangeable. Your practitioner will discuss which option is most suitable for you during your consultation.

Botox® is a prescription medicine containing botulinum toxin type A. It works by temporarily relaxing selected muscles that contribute to expression lines. Depending on the area treated, results may begin to appear within several days, with full effect usually assessed at around two weeks. Duration varies between individuals and treatment areas.

Dysport® is a prescription medicine containing Clostridium botulinum type A toxin-haemagglutinin complex. It is another established anti-wrinkle option used to temporarily soften selected facial lines. Your clinician will determine whether Dysport® is appropriate for your treatment goals and facial anatomy.

Relfydess® is a prescription medicine containing relabotulinumtoxinA in a ready-to-use liquid formulation. It is indicated for the temporary improvement in the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines and moderate to severe lateral canthal lines, also known as crow’s feet, in adults. Some patients may notice visible changes earlier than with traditional formulations, although individual results vary.

Less common side effects can include headache, asymmetry, eyelid or brow heaviness, or unwanted muscle weakness. Your practitioner will discuss your medical history, possible contraindications and what to expect before treatment.
